The history of biochar
Hundreds of years ago, the indigenous people of the Amazon region mixed charcoal and organic matter into the soil, creating a fertile black soil known today as biochar. As the global climate and environment continue to evolve, we are re-evaluating the significance of biochar.
What is Biochar?
Biochar is a product derived from the thermal decomposition of biomass materials, primarily composed of carbon molecules. Unlike traditional charcoal used for fuel, biochar serves as a soil amendment, aiding plant growth, finding applications in agriculture, and being utilized for carbon capture and storage.
Why is Biochar Valuable?
A. Enhancing Soil Fertility and Stability: Biochar features a fine-grained, highly porous structure that helps soil retain nutrients and moisture. When integrated into farmland, it enhances fertility and stability, and positively impacts soil disease resistance.
B. Carbon Capture and Storage: Biochar can capture and remove greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane from the atmosphere, thereby contributing to climate change mitigation.
How is Biochar Produced?
Our 2nd generation continuous carbonization furnace processes anhydrous biomass feedstock to produce biochar. As a leading biochar production equipment manufacturer in China, our second-generation continuous carbonization furnace is your optimal choice. Standard-compliant raw materials are fed into the rotating drum of the carbonization furnace via a conveyor, where they undergo high-temperature carbonization in a micro-oxygen environment to produce biochar. Additionally, by-products such as flammable gases and wood vinegar are generated, and tar is produced during the process. The quality of biochar varies depending on the raw materials used.
What Raw Materials are Suitable for Biochar Production?
Generally, all biomass materials can be used to produce biochar, including wood, bamboo, sawdust, coconut husk, rice husk, as well as various vines, corn stalks, and nut shells. Bamboo biochar, sawdust biochar, and coconut shell biochar are all derived from these materials.
