Process Description and Operation Procedures
1.1 Loading Raw Materials
Our Horizontal Multi-Function Carbonization System can process many types of material. Typical raw materials are biomass briquets, which can be directly used in the system for carbonization process. Other types of raw material such as tree branches, trunks & roots, waste wood from saw mills, planks, old wooden furniture, old wooden construction material, etc. that are irregular shape and sizes have to be cut or sawed into appropriate sizes before loading to the carbonization system.
Loading of raw materials can be performed in two methods: Directly load the raw materials into the kiln chamber; or to fill the raw material into the provided Load Trolley, then push the trolley into the kiln chamber along the rails. The latter method is recommended as this method is easier, provides a gap between the raw material and kiln wall which is more efficient in heat distribution especially at the end stage of the process.
Once the raw materials are loaded into the kiln, close and seal the main door.
Inspect the door to ensure perfect seal to prevent gas leakage before proceed to start the process. While installing the fume pipes, please make sure the joints are sealed with insulators to ensure leak-proof.
1.2 System Start Up
After inspection of the above step, proceed with the start up process. The start up of the process starts by ensuring all valves are in the open position, except for the fume extraction valve which is located at the top-center of the kiln. Switch on the water recirculation pumps and ensure the water recirculation functions smoothly.
Next step is to start the fire in the combustion chamber. The fire in the combustion chamber can be fueled by wood/coal, diesel burner or gas burner. Here, we use wood fire as example. Start the fire on the wood in all three combustion chambers to heat up the Main Carbonization Kiln. Switch on the blower to the maximum RPM to ensure sufficient flame in all three combustion chamber. Once the system produces flammable gas, turn off the water recirculation for the sprinkle purification system.
1.3 Low Temperature Stage (Vinegar Collection)
During the initial stage of the process, the fume extraction valve is in the closed position. Once the temperature reaches 100 ~ 150oC, open the fume extraction valve to 1/3 opening position. During this stage, vinegar-water-tar mixture can be collected in the vinegar collection tank. Concentrated vinegar can be collected at temperature of 150~ 180oC. Temperature above 180oC may be difficult to collect vinegar as it becomes more volatile. Passing thru the condensation tank separates the tar, which can collect more purified vinegar.
1.4 Carbonization Process
After the collection of vinegar, increase the temperature to maximize the carbonization process. At this stage, the production of flammable gas starts and the fume extraction valve should be fully opened. The flammable gases produced is circulated to the combustion chamber as substitution fuel and therefore no additional fuel is required until the end of the process.
